JARDIN DE LA CONNAISSANCE

Ho sempre pensato che i libri siano una “materia prima” di grande impatto e bellezza nell’arredamento. Devono pensarla allo stesso modo i designer tedeschi di 100 Landschaftsarchitektur che, in collaborazione con l’artista canadese Rodney LaTourelle, hanno creato questo sorprendente “giardino” per l’ International Festival des Jardins, in corso fino al prossimo ottobre nella cittadina canadese di Metis. I libri sono accatastati a formare pareti, camere e posti a sedere, oppure sepolti per diventare pavimentazione. Ma non solo: fra un libro e l’altro sono inserite coltivazioni di otto specie di funghi che contribuiscono ad accellerare il processo di decomposizione della carta e ad amalgamare fra loro elementi diversi, con risultati davvero suggestivi.

I always thought that books are a “raw material” of great beauty and impact in furnishing.  The German designer of 100 Landschaftsarchitektur must think the same. They have created, in collaboration with the Canadian artist Rodney Latourelle, this amazing “garden” for the International Festival des Jardins, ongoing until next October in Metis, Canada.  The books are stacked to form walls, rooms and seats, or to become buried pavement. Than, eight varieties of mushroom are cultivated on selected books, speeding their decay into the landscape. That help to accelerate the decomposition of paper and mix together different elements, with very impressive results.
